Indulge in the ultimate Southern comfort food with this quick and bold Cajun Shrimp and Grits dish.
Juicy shrimp are seasoned with smoky paprika, Cajun spices, and a touch of cayenne before being sautéed to perfection. They're served over rich, creamy cheddar grits for a satisfying meal that’s perfect for both weeknights and special occasions.
Want a twist? Try it with Parmesan instead of cheddar—we love it both ways.
1 lb large shrimp, peeled and deveined (from Don’s Meat Shop)
2 tbsp butter
1 tbsp olive oil
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tsp smoked paprika
1 tsp Cajun seasoning
½ tsp cayenne pepper (optional, for extra heat)
Juice of ½ lemon
1 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped
1 cup stone-ground grits
4 cups water (or a mix of water and chicken broth for more flavor)
1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
¼ cup heavy cream or whole milk
2 tbsp butter
Salt and pepper to taste
Step 1: Bring water or broth to a boil in a saucepan.
Step 2: Slowly whisk in grits and reduce heat to low.
Step 3: Simmer for 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thick and creamy.
Step 4: Stir in butter, heavy cream, cheddar cheese, salt, and pepper. Keep warm.
Step 1: In a skillet, heat butter and olive oil over medium-high.
Step 2: Add garlic and sauté for 30 seconds until fragrant.
Step 3: Add shrimp, paprika, Cajun seasoning, and cayenne. Cook 2–3 minutes per side until opaque and slightly charred.
Step 4: Squeeze in lemon juice and toss with chopped parsley.
Step 1: Spoon creamy grits onto each plate.
Step 2: Top with shrimp and pan juices.
Step 3: Garnish with extra parsley and a lemon wedge. Serve hot.
